There are lots of ways you can help your community with Habitat and they don't all require swinging a hammer!
Volunteers help construct Habitat homes, leading to big savings in the process. Habitat works with volunteers with all types of experience, whether you are a retired carpenter, have never used a hammer, or anywhere in between! Volunteers must be 18 years old to work on the build site, or 16 to volunteer with a parent/legal guardian.
New Home & Rehab Home Construction Volunteers
Raise the roof. Build walls. Install flooring and cabinets. Almost every aspect of home construction is completed by volunteers. Build days are typically from 9am-4pm with a lunch break at noon.
Home Repair Volunteers
Help complete smaller, one to two day projects throughout Waukesha County. Pick projects that interest you and take place when you are available.
Are you knowledgeable about home construction/carpentry and have extra time to make a difference? Become a crew leader! Crew leaders not only assist with the construction of homes, they also work with the construction manager to lead and teach new volunteers and volunteer groups. Crew leaders work once per week or more on the build site. Now that Habitat is building more homes than ever in Waukesha County, more crew leaders are needed to help with all of the sites!
The ReStore offers four-hour shifts in a variety of roles, including light duty, heavy duty, and skilled. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, 12 with a parent/legal guardian.
Light Duty - Cashier
Cashiers not only check out customers' purchases, they also greet and thank all customers, answer the ReStore phones, schedule donation pick ups, and educate customers about Habitat.
Light Duty - Donations
Help clean and organize incoming donations, as well as process smaller donations such as hardware, tools, and home decor.
Heavy Duty- Donations
Many incoming donations are large, heavier items (couches, cabinets, entertainment centers, etc.). Help unload the donation truck, process donations, move items to the sales floor, and assist customers with their purchases.
Skilled - Deconstruction
Assist the ReStore as it salvages as many useable items as possible from homes being remodeled or torn down. The ReStore takes anything from kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities to windows, doors and flooring.
Skilled - Repair & Pricing
Use your knowledge and experience to repair broken items, test electrical appliances and other equipment, and price items for sale.
Please note, if you are completing court-ordered community service, additional information is required prior to beginning your service. Please contact our volunteer coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org; 262-309-6025) for assistance.
There are many ways to volunteer that don't include manual labor. Use your talents to help grow the organization and give back to your community.
Board of Directors
Directors lead Habitat on strategic planning, grow the organization's network, make policy decisions and make yearly financial contributions.
If you have fundraising or event planning experience or interest, we'd love your assistance! Help Habitat organize and run various events and auctions throughout the year, spread the word about Habitat's work to the community, and raise funds for many projects each year.
Habitat works with thousands of volunteers, donors, applicants, businesses and organizations every year. Work in the Habitat office to input and manage the data system.
Provide cleaning services for our office space.
Build groups are scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays year round on the construction sites. Group size is typically between 4-10 individuals. All construction volunteers must be 16 years or older.
Due to the limited openings in our construction calendar for Corporate / Business Groups, priority scheduling for build days is reserved for partners who have contributed a donation to support our mission.
Group opportunities are also available at the Waukesha ReStore to help with special projects. ReStore volunteers must be 12 years or older.
Youth Volunteer Groups
Do you have a youth group that wants to give back to their community? Youth can volunteer with Habitat by making lunches for our build site volunteers, working at our ReStore, hosting a fundraiser to benefit Habitat, doing a building or art project, and spreading the word about our organization throughout the community!
