Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County builds decent, affordable homes for families who are unable to purchase a home through traditional methods. We do not give houses away; we believe in giving a hand up, not a handout. By providing a home with an affordable mortgage, homeowners obtain self-sufficiency and overall improved family health and neighborhood pride.
Founded in 1989, Habitat Waukesha has become a central part of the Waukesha community. For over 30 years, Habitat Waukesha has been continually expanding its efforts to help local families achieve stability through decent and affordable housing. In 2015, we tripled our yearly number of homes built from an average of one home per year to three homes in that year alone!
We bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Through building homes for those in need, we create a better community for everyone. Together, we can build a Waukesha County family that has the strength, stability, and self-reliance to work through any challenge.
Why Housing Matters
In the 2019 State of the Nation's Housing report, Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies states that 31.5% of households in the United States are paying over 30 percent of their income on housing, with more than 18 million households are spending half of their income on housing. This is known as "cost-burdened" by housing.
Cost-burdened renters and homeowners in the bottom income brackets tend to cut back on necessities to pay for housing. This can mean spending significantly less (or sometimes nothing at all) on things like food, health care, transportation, and retirement savings. Some families cut back on health care spending by almost 70% to pay for housing.
At Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County, we've made affordable housing a reality for over 30 families in 30 years. In addition to building homes, we educate the community on affordable housing and how you can help support our mission.
Our ReStore is our retail location that collects and sells donated home goods and building materials at a discounted price. Profits from the ReStore are used to fund our builds, and community members take advantage of the lower price to help furnish their homes.
