Committees are back in 2021! We have a need for passionate individuals who want to get more involved in the planning of the operations at Habitat Waukesha. All committees will meet virtually due to COVID-19 precautions.
Our committee opportunities may change based on need. At this time, we are seeking committee members for the following committees:
Read on below for a description of each committee!
Members of the events committee will assist in planning and executing major Habitat Waukesha events throughout the year. These events include our Women Build event, our annual Gala, our Gingerbread Build competition, and our first-ever golf outing. There are four members on staff at Habitat Waukesha that plan, coordinate, and find the funds to make events happen every year. While our staff are talented and skilled, they can use a helping hand. Events Committee member duties may include sourcing vendors or sponsors for the event through networking connections or call lists, assisting with marketing and graphics design, spreading the word about the event, recruiting volunteers and participants, fundraising for the event, assisting with day-of activities, and more.
If you are someone who loves to plan, likes to be creative, or just enjoys having fun at events, this is a great committee for you!
Community involvement is the backbone of any healthy nonprofit organization. The Outreach Committee serves to support our volunteer recruitment, donations sourcing, and organizational partnerships with local businesses, churches, schools, and other nonprofits. We have partnered with organizations like La Casa de Esperanza, Family Promise, HAWS, and many others. We also work with area churches and schools to provide volunteer opportunities for their members. We are always looking to make new connections, but maintaining existing connections is also a top priority. Members of the Outreach Committee may be called upon to make phone calls, help distribute informational flyers or letters, forge connections through networking, or to be involved in hosting webinars or informal video calls. Once it is safe to do so, there may be in-person activities available as well. For example, many churches hold volunteer fairs in the fall, and often invite local nonprofits to host a booth at these events where people can learn more about getting involved. You may be asked to represent Habitat Waukesha at such events!
Family Selection Committee
Our Habitat homeowners go through an application process, and we have a lot of interest from the general public. When our application process opens up, we will need help sorting through the applications and matching each applicant with the criteria that we require in order to move forward with potential homeowners. Habitat homeowners must live in Waukesha County, be willing to work with us in completing their sweat equity hours, and must be able to pay an affordable home mortgage once their home is built. It is not easy choosing who is the right fit for the homes that we are building - that's where our Family Selection Committee comes in! If you have experience in approving credit applications, approving lease agreements, or are generally organized, this could be a good committe for you.
