Without the help of our dedicated and caring volunteers, we would not be able to build as many affordable, quality homes for families in our community. Every year, we work with an average of over 200 volunteers who put in thousands of hours of service toward supporting our mission.
You don't have to swing a hammer to help your community! We have ongoing opportunities at our construction sites and at our ReStore, but we also need help year-round with special events, landscaping, cleaning, and office projects. Check out each section below for more details.
Eager to get started? Apply today!
The ReStore offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including:
Donation intake (unloading merchandise)
Store promotion (mailings, flyer distribution)
Artistic & DIY projects
Light-duty and heavy-duty volunteer work is available. Have retail or cashiering experience, or very sociable and want to interact with people? Consider volunteering as a cashier. Have some muscle? Help process incoming donations. Good at cleaning household goods? Help keep the store neat and tidy. For more details on volunteering at the Waukesha ReStore, click here.
New Home & Rehab Home Construction Volunteers
Volunteers complete almost every aspect of a Habitat home's construction. We work with volunteers of all experience levels, whether you are a retired carpenter, have never used a hammer, or anywhere between! Volunteers must be 18 years old to work on the build site or 16 to volunteer with a parent/legal guardian.
Volunteers should come dressed for the weather, wearing closed-toe shoes, long pants*, and a short- or long-sleeved shirt. Masks are currently required when inside. Masks are optional for outdoor work on the construction site. Remember to bring a water bottle!
*Shorts are authorized; however, build days include plenty of kneeling on rough surfaces
Have experience? Become a Crew Leader!
Are you knowledgeable about home construction/carpentry and have extra time to make a difference? Become a crew leader! Crew leaders assist with the construction of homes and work with the construction manager to lead and teach new volunteers and volunteer groups. Crew leaders work once per week or more on the build site. Now that Habitat is building more homes than ever in Waukesha County, more crew leaders are needed to help with all of the sites!
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, opportunities for construction volunteers are limited.
Please contact the Marketing and Volunteer Manager for further details.

Youth Volunteer Groups
Do you have a group of youth that want to give back to their community? Youth can volunteer with Habitat by making lunches for our build site volunteers, working at our ReStore, hosting a fundraiser to benefit Habitat, doing a building or art project, and spreading the word about our organization throughout the community! We are always open to working with our youth and would love to hear your ideas. Volunteers must be 18 years old to work on the build site or 16 to volunteer with a parent/legal guardian.
Contact our Marketing and Volunteer Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org today to learn how your group can get involved!
Please note, if you are completing court-ordered community service, additional information is required prior to beginning your service. For complete details, please review our Community Service Volunteer Policy document.

We encourage each volunteer to consider their vaccination status and CDC - COVID 19 Risk Factors when deciding whether to volunteer.
Of particular note:
Masks / face coverings are recommended but not required for indoor locations.
If you have been recently exposed to someone who has tested positive with COVID or have recently tested positive we ask that they reach out to email@example.com to discuss our protocols further before volunteering.
Daily wellness checks should be self-performed before coming to Habitat. If anyone answers “yes” to either of these questions, please stay home for the day.
If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, have you had exposure to anyone with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 within the last 14 days?
Regardless of vaccination status, are you currently experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms (including fever, sore throat, respiratory illness, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell)
All volunteers, staff, AmeriCorps, and partner families should stay home if they are sick.
If, with-in 10 days, of you volunteering with Habitat you test positive or are exposed to someone who tests positive. We ask that you share that information with the volunteer manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
